Why We Watch For The New Moon Our Heavenly Father created the lights in heaven for the purpose of determining time. We can never treat the moon and stars as objects of worship, but we can't ignore Yahweh's instructions concerning the proper use of His creation. We watch for the visible crescent of the New Moon indicating a new month has begun, but all the honor and glory go to Yahweh the Creator, not the creation, as we seek to do His will. Genesis 1:14 And Elohim said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years. Numbers 28:11-14 and 29:6 tells us that we need to recognize the first day of each month with a service of worship. 1 Samuel 20:5, 18 confirms that those in King David's time recognized the monthly New Moon as a significant event. ![]() CLICK HERE to order your 2017 Calendar, complete with projections for all this year's new moon observing |
